One robot, five tasks: the FJD Rough Ranger explained

Most field robots do one thing: mowing, or line marking, or picking up balls. Anyone who wants to automate several tasks then buys several machines, each with its own app, maintenance and training. The FJD Rough Ranger takes a different approach: one autonomous base platform with interchangeable kits. You change the kit, not the machine.
The base platform
The Rough Ranger is itself a robotic mower with a cutting width of 635 mm and a cutting height of 20 to 120 mm. It maintains up to 12,000 m² per charge, runs up to 5 hours on a 4 kWh battery and mows slopes up to 20°. For navigation it combines RTK-GPS with LiDAR, and 360° obstacle detection plus front and rear bumpers ensure safe operation. The platform weighs 170 kg and is protected to IPX4.
The four kits
Picking up balls: BP02
With the BP02 Ball Picker Kit the Rough Ranger picks up golf balls on the driving range, according to the manufacturer up to 3,000 per hour and up to 36,000 per charge. When the basket is full, it returns automatically.
Line marking: LM03
The LM03 Line Marker Kit turns it into a line marking robot. With a 25-litre paint tank it marks up to 20 full-size football pitches per charge. You survey the pitch with the V4e Pro and then start with one tap.
Collecting clippings: GC01
The GC01 Grass Collector Kit collects clippings, leaves and light debris across a width of 800 mm, with a collection volume of up to 150 litres and three brush speeds. It also works on artificial turf and unloads the collected material.
Brushing dew: DB01
With the DB01 Dew Brush Kit the robot brushes the dew off greens and fairways in the morning, up to 2,930 mm wide with three sections. The brush lifts automatically when starting, in turns and at transitions. Less surface moisture means less disease pressure and a more consistent ball roll.
Why one platform pays off
- One machine to manage: one app, one maintenance schedule and one training course for the team.
- Higher utilisation: the robot does not stand idle between two tasks, but switches tasks throughout the day.
- Expand step by step: start with mowing and add a kit later when the next task comes up.
Who is the Rough Ranger for?
The platform suits grounds with several types of work on the same estate best. Think of golf courses with a driving range, sports complexes that mow and mark lines, and leisure estates with natural and artificial turf. If you mainly have large areas to mow, a specialised robotic mower such as the FJD Titan is often more efficient. An overview of all machines is on the products page.
Frequently asked questions
How do I switch kits? +
During installation we show your team how to attach each kit and which settings go with it, so you can then switch tasks yourself.
Can I use the Rough Ranger without a kit? +
Yes. The base platform is itself a robotic mower. The kits add extra tasks.
Do I have to buy all kits at once? +
No. You can start with one task and add kits later.
